Dr. Kay Johnson
Superintendent


     
     Dr. Johnson, a Greenwood native, began her career in education as a fifth grade teacher at Greenwood Elementary School in 1978.  She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education at the College of the Ozarks.  Her post graduate work was done in educational administration at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she earned a Masters Degree, an Educational Specialist Degree and a Doctorate of Education Degree.

    After seven years of teaching at Greenwood, Dr. Johnson moved to County Line School District in Branch, Arkansas where she worked for thirteen years first as elementary principal and then as superintendent. In 1999, she accepted the position of director of the newly formed Western Arkansas Technical Center on the University of Arkansas Fort Smith campus before coming back to her Greenwood alma mater as superintendent in 2002.  In addition to her responsibilities as superintendent, Dr. Johnson has taken an active role in professional and civic organizations as a member, officer and board member. 

    Dr. Johnson is married to Don Johnson, a CPA with an office in Booneville, Arkansas.  They have two sons, Lee, an emergency room physician who is married to Jennifer, a pediatrician.  Their second son, Brad, and his wife, Sandy, are dermatologists.  Both families reside in Greenwood with the five Johnson grandchildren.

 

 

 

 



Mr. John Ciesla
Assistant Superintendent

 
    
     Mr. Ciesla joined the administrative team at Greenwood in 2006-2007.  Mr. Ciesla received his Bachelor of Science in Natural Science for Secondary Education, Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, and Educational Specialist Degree from Arkansas Tech University.  Before coming to Greenwood, Mr. Ciesla taught seven years at Hector High School, was the high school principal at Lavaca for two years, and served from 2004-2006 as the Superintendent of Schools at Lavaca. 
 
    Mr. Ciesla is married to Angel Ciesla, a graduate of Greenwood High School, and they have three children.  Mr. Ciesla states, "I have admired the community of Greenwood over the last fifteen years and I am excited to have the opportunity to be a member of it." He continues, "I cannot think of a better place to raise a family than Greenwood, Arkansas."
 
    Mr. Ciesla's responsibilities include: Director of Personnel, Staff Evaluation, Mentoring and Induction of New Employees, Federal Programs Supervisor, Coordinator of the Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Plan, and Federal and State Compliance Supervisor. Mr. Ciesla is also involved in the following organizations: Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, Arkansas Association of School Administrators, Arkansas Association of School Business Officials, Arkansas Association of Personnel Administrators, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Mr. Jerry Cecil
Assistant Superintendent


    
     Mr. Cecil began his career as an educator in 1968, and has been with the Greenwood School District since 1985. He spent eight years in Missouri and nine years in Tennessee prior to returning to his hometown, Greenwood. He stated, "Greenwood is a great community in which to live and raise a family. Through the combined efforts of the school and community, our students have an excellent opportunity to prepare to meet the many challenges they will face throughout life."

     He goes on to say that, "Greenwood Schools provide the best in programs, equipment, materials and facilities, as well as the benefit of an outstanding staff and strong community support. This helps to make this district one of the best in the state. High student achievement and relatively low per pupil expenditures indicate the quality of our school system."

     Mr. Cecil is a member of the Arkansas High School Athletic Administrators Association Executive Committee and serves as a State Coordinator for the Leadership Training Program for Arkansas high school athletic administrators. he is also a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators.

As assistant superintendent, Mr. Cecil's responsibilities include:

• Supervision of BASS Academy (Before and After School Success)
• School Choice and Home Schooling
• Coordination of the District Crisis Response Team
• Supervision of the District's Centralized Copying Program
• District Equity Coordinator
• Director of Athletics
